Welcome to Tara Toastmasters

“Yes I will”

Why join Toastmasters?

Because it offers “a proven – and enjoyable – way to practise and hone communication and leadership skills” (Toastmasters International website www.toastmasters.org)

Let me give you an insight into why some of our Toastmasters joined.  The reasons are varied just like our membership.  Some decided to join because they needed to give a speech at a wedding.  Others received that tap on the shoulder at work “Hi John/Mary will you give a presentation to the staff on the new system next week”.  Others are involved in organisations where they have to speak in public.  The reasons are many and varied, but the purpose of joining Toastmasters is really the same – to have the confidence to stand up and speak in public, face an audience, control the nerves and get your message across.

Toastmasters offers opportunities to find your speaking voice and much more.  Toastmasters educational programme has both a Communication and a Leadership strands.  See link http://www.d71.org

Toastmasters is unique in that you have the opportunity to practice communication and leadership skills in a sustained, ongoing way, in a mutually positive and supportive learning environment.  For example, you can begin to give speeches from the Competent Communicator manual, and practice leadership by undertaking roles at regular Club meetings.

The mission of every Toastmaster Club is:

To provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn, foster self-confidence and personal growth.

Try out the Tara Toastmasters experience

Come along as our Guest.  You will be greeted by friendly Toastmasters who will explain the format of the meeting.  As a Guest you will not be asked to speak – only if you choose to do so!  See for yourself if Tara Toastmasters has something for you.  When you decide to join, you will become part of a worldwide organisation that is expanding annually with 235,000 current members in 11,700 Clubs in 92 countries.

When you join Tara Toastmasters you will be encouraged with the help of a mentor, always at your own pace, to get started on speeches; to take on various meeting roles, get involved on the committee.   You will benefit from ongoing opportunities to practice speaking in front of an audience.
