It has been both a pleasure and a privilege to be President of Tara Toastmasters for the past year. I am glad to report that Tara has achieved its Goals for the year. Toastmasters International award points for certain achievements. By achieving 8 out 10 goals we are a ‘Select Distinguished Club’ yet again.
Goal points are awarded for such as: members achieving CCs or CLs; new members joining; committee members attending training meetings twice a year and membership dues being paid on time to Toastmasters International.
As you can see, it is not only the Committee who have helped with this, but all members who have worked hard to attain their CCs or CLs have also contributed to our success. So congratulations to all who helped Tara to achieve their goals for 2006-2007.
Your Committee has worked well and hard on your behalf during the year. We met regularly throughout the year. Members of the Committee gave a brief outline of what their role involved at the AGM last week.
All work and no play would not be much fun, so we had plenty of social outings during the year. We had our usual Christmas Dinner as well as celebrating Tara’s 21st Party in January 2007.
Three daytime outings were organised. We visited the National Gallery, Dublin Castle and will go to the National Garden Exhibition in Kilquade for a summer outing in June followed by a dinner in the evening.
This is our 4th newsletter. By producing it regularly I hope to have a forum for information and ideas. John Earle has also put them up on our website. Articles are always welcome.
The Club purchased a data projector this year. I hope this will give Tara’s members an opportunity to practise giving professional presentations. I will arrive at 7.00 p.m. on any Thursday if any member would like advice or practise in using it.
Stuck for a topic for your next speech?
Why not get prepared for next year? Why not keep a notebook or box somewhere handy around the house. Any time you get an idea/inspiration, just jot it down and file it away. Perhaps you might get an idea from an article in the newspaper! Cut it out and file it! Brainstorm a list of all your interests and hobbies. If all this gets you really focussed on a particular speech idea you could let Jacqui know as she is our incoming Vice President of Education. Contact details of all members of the incoming Committee will be emailed/or posted to all shortly.
I would like to welcome the incoming Committee and wish them all the best for the coming year.
The following were elected at the AGM on the 31st May 2007:
President: Evangeline Leonard
VP Education: Jacqui Gilbourne
VP Membership: Valerie Pedlow
VP Public Relations: John Lynam
Treasurer: Margaret Wynne
Sergeant at Arms: Allan Kilpatrick and Jim Cullen (jointly)
I would like to thank my Committee who have helped me greatly throughout the year.
Reminder! 7th June is our last meeting before the summer. The next meeting will (probably) be on Thursday 6th September 2007. The incoming Committee will decide and will email all with the details.
