Topics Tips
Speaking at Topics can be
the most daunting part of a Toastmasters meeting for many of us. As Mark Twain said: “It usually takes me more than three
weeks to prepare a good impromptu speech.”
However, for us Toastmasters, we have to reply immediately. A good reply is like a mini speech and
should have a beginning, middle and end.

to a topic:

Sunday lunch outing:
On Sunday 1st
April a group from Tara met at Dublin Castle. We had lunch in Dublin Vaults followed by a guided tour of
Dublin Castle. This was most enjoyable
and informative.
We learned that the ‘black
pool’ in this area gave Dublin its name of Dubh Linn or Black Pool. The Vikings set up a fortress here 930
AD. The Normans took over in 1169 and
strengthened and fortified it. From
1204 to 1230 King John of England added to it further and its structure today
is broadly similar to this time.
Dublin Castle has been the
centre of Irish social and political life.
Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries the
Protestant ascendancy class enjoyed a marvellous social life here with elegant
balls full of pomp and glamour.
In recent times, Dublin
Castle has hosted top level European Union meetings as well as meetings to
further the Northern Ireland Peace process.
Please note: ideas for our Summer Outing are welcome.
